Salvation Army offers free summer camp to survivors of Joplin tornado

In light of the recent tragedy in Joplin, Missouri and the many children who were affected, The Salvation Army would like to extend an invitation to children who were directly impacted by the storm of May 22nd to attend one of three camps at Camp Mihaska in Bourbon, Mo.The camp has been a Christian retreat and sanctuary for more than 60 years, serving youth, families,churches and organizations needing spiritual and personal refuge.

The Salvation Army has long recognized the value of camping and hopes that by offering these children a week of relaxation and Christian recreation as they recover from the traumatic experiences of the last month, that they will be able to regain a sense of hope as they work to begin their new lives.

Joplin youth are welcome to register for any of the camps listed below and should contacted the Joplin Salvation Army Worship &  Community Center directly to register at  (417) 624-4528. Campers must be registered to guarantee that there will be sufficient room for them and their families.

  • Discovery Camp July 5-8, 2011 boys and girls ages 9-16
  • Family camp July 11-15,2011 Families with children ages 0 to 15
  • Family Camp 2 July 25-29, 2011 Families with children ages 0 to 15
