Want a way to start your August off with a bang? Well The Salvation Army knows exactly how to do that with our upcoming Garbage Bag Gala on August 2. The Garbage Bag Gala is a fashion show that benefits The Salvation Army’s homeless services and emergency social services.  The evening’s highlights include models in creations made of garbage bags and duct tape and an after-party on the roof of the Moonrise Hotel. We already have the models, the designs, and yes, the garbage bags. But we’re missing just one ingredient to make this night perfect and that’s you!

Tickets are discounted right now and the tickets range from $25 for admission to the show to $50 for admission to the show and after-party access. Just ONE day left to get these half-off prices to the Garbage Bag Gala.

Grab your tickets now while prices are still discounted until July 19at midnight. Hope to see you at the Moonrise Hotel on August 2 from 7-11 p.m.

This Week: Garbage Bag Gala at Moonrise Hotel

By: Danni Eickenhorst, Midland Division

We’ve been hard at work on this event for months now and this week, we get to see all of our hard work come to fruition.

This Friday night, 17 models and designers will feature their casual and formal creations made out of garbage bags and duct tape on the runway (grand staircase) at Moonrise Hotel! Some of the creations we’ve seen are absolutely awe-inspiring – from trash bag wedding dresses to mermaid-inspired creations.

These models and designers have been hard at work for the fun of it – and also because they believe in the cause – Salvation Army homeless shelters in the St. Louis region. Check out this blog from model Andreea Cojocariu for more on why she’s so supportive of this event and The Salvation Army in Missouri.

This week only there are several online specials for discounted tickets, but if you have it in your budget to purchase at full price, remember that the proceeds go to support our homeless shelters in O’Fallon, Alton and St. Louis. Come out and enjoy an amazing show, entertainment from Rob Cruse and DJ Epic and delicious eats from Eclipse Restaurant.

This event was made possible by incredible sponsors and partners such as Hardees, Moonrise Hotel, Eclipse Restaurant, Cruse Entertainment, Yelp and Patch.com.

Special room packages are available at the Moonrise Hotel for attendees. Their “Get a Night, Give A Night” promotion will donate $53 from your stay to The Salvation Army’s shelter program. Book now, they’re going fast!

Give a Night, Get a Night

Special Room Package at Moonrise Hotel for Garbage Bag Gala

By: Elizabeth Koch, Midland Divison

Booking a room at the Moonrise Hotel for the night of Garbage Bag Gala on July 27 not only provides guests with a place to crash after the event, but also a donation to The Salvation Army’s shelter program thanks to the Give a Night, Get a Night promotion.

To continue the theme of raising awareness about homelessness, The Moonrise Hotel, the venue for Garbage Bag Gala, will donate the equivalent of what a one-night stay in a Salvation Army shelter would cost to The Salvation Army Shelter program. This rounds out to $53, or about a quarter of the overall cost of a one-night stay at The Moonrise.

“Give a Night, Get a Night” only applies on the day of Garbage Bag Gala, July 27, and capacity is limited, so hotel guests are encouraged to make reservations as quickly as possible.

The luxury boutique Moonrise Hotel is unlike any other hotel in St. Louis, with a modern one-of-a-kind design. Guests have much to see and explore at the Moonrise Hotel including a color-changing wall and staircase in the main lobby that lead to the lunar-themed artistic displays at Eclipse Restaurant. Guests also can travel up to the eighth floor to the Rooftop Terrace Bar and enjoy the breathtaking view of The Delmar Loop under the world’s largest man-made moon.

To do your part and raise awareness about homelessness in St. Louis, purchase a ticket for Garbage Bag Gala on July 27 and reserve a room for that evening at the Moonrise Hotel before it’s too late.

Designers Needed for Garbage Bag Gala

By: Elizabeth Koch, Midland Division

Those with a knack for fashion design are needed to showcase their creativity
at the Moonrise Hotel on July 27 at the Garbage Bag Gala.

Each designer will design a casual and evening wear look out of garbage bags and duct tape for the model they are paired with. No other materials can be used, and stitching is not allowed. At the end of the night, a panel of judges will choose which designer and model combination is the best, and the winners will receive a prize.

Prizes from Loop businesses will be up for grabs, including gifts and gift cards from Blueberry Hill, Fitz’s and The Pageant. Two tickets to the Aug. 4 Cardinal game against the Milwaukee Brewers also will be available. In addition, designers will be publicized in The Salvation Army’s press releases and social media posts for the Garbage Bag Gala.

The Garbage Bag Gala allows attendees to give back to the organization that continues to do the most good in St. Louis – The Salvation Army. The evening will raise awareness about homelessness and educate people about The Salvation Army’s homeless services.

Food and beverages from Eclipse Restaurant will be available during the event, and room packages at the Moonrise Hotel also are available. To learn more about Garbage Bag Gala, visit The Salvation Army’s summer series website, or buy tickets today.

Social Success & Garbage Bag Gala Sneak Peek with Jess Leitch – Designers Needed!

By: Danni Eickenhorst, Midland Division

Well, thanks to all of you we really hit one out of the ballpark with Tuesday night’s #TweetTheMostGood event on the Moonrise Hotel rooftop! We sold the event out (twice) and had an incredibly engaged group of people captive for our story.

A special thanks to Simone and Jake Bernstein for coming out and encouraging individuals to find time in their busy schedules to give back. The event was truly a Who’s Who of St. Louis social media and gave The Salvation Army in St. Louis more than half a million impressions through the magic of Twitter.

A big THANKS to Social Media Club of St. Louis for showing up in droves and to Vantage Credit Union for their sponsorship and support! – AND OF COURSE: Thanks to Moonrise Hotel & Eclipse Restaurant without whom none of this would be possible. They went above and beyond!

Our next event is Garbage Bag Gala at Moonrise Hotel. #TweetTheMostGood generated such buzz for this event that I know it will surely surpass our tweetup.

This morning, I met with the incomparable Jess Leitch, blogger (@CityJars) and all around great gal and we planned and plotted for Garbage Bag Gala. Check it out and get involved:
